First time being here for their Lunch Set June 2017. They have different lunch set every month, so check their website from time to time to get the latest update of the lunch set offered !
The bf was the one who always checked for the latest update for all restaurant menus and lunch sets which sometimes offers value and affordable sets. He found that the Cantaloupe, Troika Sky Dining was offering a June lunch set menu at the price of RM 140++/pax. We were so tempted by looking at the 7-course lunch menu offered.
The ambience and view from the restaurant was very nice. Our seats were facing the KL City Centre, KL Tower and Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, KLCC. From the lift entrance, we were directed to our seats attentively by the staff. The service was in top-notch as everything was served carefully, patiently with explanation of every courses. The used utensils were changed from time to time in every courses.
These was the outside seats of the Cantaloupe at Troika Sky Dining, KL. It will be very hot in the afternoon, therefore, normally inside seats were arranged for the noon sessions.
Fresh Orchid flowers were planted in Cantaloupe at Troika Sky Dining, KL so beautifully. The fragrance of the orchid flowers sparked up the whole restaurant with good smell and freshness. It feels so good to indulge and pamper yourself once awhile with excellent quality of foods by the accompany of beautiful view of KL Tower.
These was the Cantaloupe ‘The Express Gourmet June 2017’ 7-course Lunch Set menu. It was so tempting, right? with the words of King Crab, Foie Gras, Lamb, Pistachio and etc. We both were very excited about the 7 courses.
The tomato was the first course which served as an appetiser. It contains of poached heirloom tomato, buffalo mozzarella parfait, tomato jelly balsamic pearls, edamame and shiso greens.
The sourness of tomato jelly balsamic pearls matched perfectly with the sweetness of poached heirloom tomato and the taste of the buffalo mozzarella parfait was not overwhelm. Just nice. There were a lot of taste in a plate – sweet, sour, salty and greens.
The steamed king crab was so fresh. The crab meats were so tender and juicy, paired well with the pickled radish and rucola cress. The mentaiko and black tobiko blended into the steamed king crab was awesome too. It brings out the flavour of salty, sour and sweet. So flavourful.
The baby wild asparagus and looks like egg yolk – calamansi gel was superb too. Everything was so flavourful in a plate. I was learning the way of doing plating as well while enjoying my lunch courses. Everything was so refined and detailed.
The lightning at this restaurant from our seats were good too. We were able to capture pretty nice pictures by using our phones only. I even can get some of my profile pictures here. Just perfect for pictures at this little cosy restaurant.
The bouillabaisse soup contains of seared scallop, venus clam, grilled squid, fried fish anchovy toast, squid ink aioli and chervil. The soup was very sweet with seafood freshness. The grilled squid was grill to perfect with no hard part developed in between.
The seared scallop was big and juicy, it was slightly seared on the top and bottom part, where the inside was still a bit raw. A few drops of squid ink were found hidden underneath the fried fish anchovy toast where the whole plate of soup turns a bit blacky after stirring in the squid ink.
The bf asked if I can cooked the soup like this for him. I guessed I can learned a similar one but not 100% the same. It tastes was like boiled with lots of baby shrimps and prawns head to a level of concentrate thicken soup, full of seafood essence. So yum.
The fourth course was the cleanser palate. The tiny skinny glass contains of lime & mint granite and pumping a spoonful of cranberry soda into the mixed. It was the mixed of sourness in a glass. It helps to clear off the leftover taste in the taste bud and to give a more clearer taste for the upcoming dish.
The cranberry soda slowly turns into liquid form and to be enjoy like a juice with the lime & mint granite. So refreshing !
The seared foie gras was paired with the pickled grape, apricot jam, burdock chips, red chard and juniper berry sauce. The foie gras was a fatty layer and oily piece in the plate, goes well with some sourness of the pickled grape. It helps to turn down the greasiness of the foie gras, so they both works well with each other.
The fatty seared foie gras was taste so heavenly melt in the mouth. Hope to have more ! It makes me missed the moment I dined in one of the restaurant in Bangkok for buffet which offers unlimited foie gras. So good ! Every piece of foie gras was seared to perfect. Really a heaven for me as I was a big fans of foie gras and moreover, I have the quota to eat them all. hahaha.
The sixth course was a grilled lamb loin serves with cannellini bean, sun dried tomato, chives water cress puree, glazed carrot, pistou sauce and carrot leaves. The chives water cress puree was kinda of refreshing one. It paired well with the grilled lamb loin from the greasiness.
Never thought to have water cress in a fine-dine plate, where it plays good role in the combination too. Look at the plating, it was a beautiful one ! A carrot ring to fits in the long beans.
Dessert was the last course in the menu. Theme for the dessert this round was Pistachio. The pistachio creme brulee was the main character of all in this plate. It was super good !
The best creme brulee I ever had. It was full of pistachio aromas, smooth and creamy. So yum ! It serves together with the pistachio tuille, pistachio ice-cream and dehydrated vanilla sponge. Everything was in pistachio. Loves to the max.
My overdue creme brulee till now have not succeed on the table yet. I guessed I will need to find a day to continue my hard work on creme brulee.
It was served together with the Pistachio dessert. Religieuse is a type of French pastry made of two choux pastry cases, one larger than the other, filled with creme patissiere, mostly in chocolate or mocha. It was so fluffy ! Ate in one mouthful.
Feeling not so full after the whole course as everything was just in small portion? There we went and ordered a cup of earl grey tea, RM 16 and a cup of latte, RM 14 to satisfy our final craved. Both were not included in the course. Therefore, you will need to pay extra for both the cup of tea and coffee.
Here comes to an end of the 7 courses lunch set menu at Cantaloupe, Troika Sky Dining ! Overall, everything was cooked to perfect and many flavours and tastes were playing around in the plates, even the plating were doing fabulously and refined.
Not only spending for the extremely good foods but also get to learn some of the knowledge about foods, flavours and taste combinations as well as the ideas for plating. It was really worth for the priced of having fine-dining once in a blue moon.
